After watching a number of class action asbestos related lawsuits involving many many lawyers I am curious if you all know of anyone with mesothelioma or related asbestos illness?

Armstrong is now owned by litigants in the class action, dow chemical, owning corning and many others have all been sent to bankruptcy at a minimum wiping out prior shareholder value. I know that the disease exists and I believe the related asbestos linkage, I just am curious about the scale of the problem considering the billions of dollars that are changing hands. Thanks for sharing your stories.

===========FROM WIKIPEDIA=====================
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos, or by home renovation using asbestos cement products. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.

Never have run into a person with that disease.

Out here I have met several people with silicosis though. Mostly from tiling and building walls. Its a sand thing.

I know a couple of people with asbestosis. One of them still smokes like a fiend, too.

I'm sure we'll all have some form of cancer before we're done. If heart disease doesn't get us first.

I have met a few,,,,
they are not good to look at,
I remember working at Laurens Glass company back in the late 60s when I was just 16 to the early 70s,,,,they had lots of bad stuff in the air around the plant but never required us to wear mask or anything,,,,once, I has having nose bleeds and refuse to mix chemicals anymore, I was fired,,,,after a visit to the doctor, I was rehired but the boss in that section kept firing me, and the owners kept rehiring me, but, after a while, they put me in another department, where THAT manager kept firing me,,,,after a while, I got tired of being fired, the last visit to the doctor cleared me, I stopped mixing at the first sign of trouble, others didn't and many today have problems,,,,I was given around 500 after my last "fire" and they paid the medical bills, from first hand knowledge/exposure, I can tell you back then, they did not care but they knew, all companies, of the dangerous chemicals and substances they were making us use,,,,all types of industries, including flooring with the stuff in the adhesives,,,

I gopt into an argument with the founder of NFT magazine. He was all po'd about all these asbestos lawsuits. I say they got what they deserved. They all knew about its hazards. No one cared untill the got slapped with a billion dollar lawsuit.

I bet ya never saw any suits hanging around the milling process where there was airborne asbestos.

I hate to ask.... but I have to.
Each time you got fired for hitting your finger with a hammer, you got rehired and once again hit your finger with a hammer, then rehired again to hit your finger with a hammer................... at what point are hammers a bad thing to be around. I would have been looking for a different type of employment if I felt health issues were damaging my body working in that place.
Maybe I misread your intentions.
Aside from that, the company needed some training and oversight about the dangers of their product to protect their employees................................ but how well was it really understood back then?

Is any lawsuit worth a billion dollars? .... that's a B with nine zeros. There isn't a life on earth worth 1 percent of that.
That said, we all know that lawyers are worth 99% of a billion dollar lawsuit, so maybe I am speaking way off base a tiny bit.

Anyones life is worth more than a billion dollars. You are a non-believer and hang with the atheist so it's not a surprise.

Besides that there's more than one person involved in the lawsuits. doh

I forgot to answer your question Steve. I haven't heard of a person with it anywhere in my area............ not in the past 34 years anyway.

Don't know of anyone personally, but there was an installer named Ian Gilliam (sp) who posted on other message boards who died from that a few years ago.

So what is the value of a human life? 5 billion? 25 billion?
There is such a thing as economic reality. To prove that, tell me how many individual people have successfully sued for one billion dollars in a lawsuit because of another persons death.
I don't hang with atheists. Actually, today, I'm hanging out at an Episcopal church. I'll be on my knees all day...... and yes, I will even be praying at times.

Your still speaking in singular terms. You are a non-believer.

Am I an atheist, an agnostic, a non believer? I don't even know the correct terminology for what I am apparently inflicted with. I don't care either. Religion just isn't part of my thought process... yup, that simple.
From your put down by injecting my non belief into this thread, it makes you look kinda like a poor example of a believer.
Please don't try and tell me your intention was not a put down. It appears you view yourself as better than me because you do believe. A persons actions determine a persons status, not his beliefs.

Being a non believer means what? Am I worth less in a legal proceeding? Been a non believer since I was old enough to ponder the subject. It just never made sense to me.......... should I spend eternity trying to convince myself of something I don't believe to be real? ....so I can 'fit in'? I don't flaunt by views on the subject, and I have nothing but respect for those that do......... I simply don't believe......... yup, it's just that simple.

Back to money. What chapter and verse in the Bible does it state the monetary value of a human life?
A billion? If I was diagnosed as having lung cancer caused by asbestos at age 55, and had another 15 years of life left, that would come to $66666666.666666666666666666666667 per year. Eeker That's just stupid.

More than three days............. It's been more than long enough for a response on both issues.
That alone says enough for me anyway, about both issues.

I guess am a lesser human being, Frowner and a human life is structured to be worth more than a billion dollars according to scripture. Eeker
Sorry... Been living in a cave.

I want to note that I 'hang' with people I like....... race, gender, religion plays absolutely no part. Ass holes are ass holes. Nice people are nice people. No need to get deeper and screw it all up by trying to prove a point.

He can read my mind I assume............. so no, he wouldn't. Don't count on me to be one of those guys that starts believing while in a foxhole and mortar fire zinging overhead. I don't believe and if he's there, he knows it quite well.
Only praying I have ever done is for some one else when I truly feel the need to.
Ever recall Pat Robertson praying away hurricanes and healing sore knees? Never happened..... and look at all that power Pat claims to possess. He's a very smart, filthy rich businessman with $$$ in his eyes.... always has been. He ain't going to heaven either.
Only difference is that I have to worry about paying my power bill............. and I don't have my ego engraved on a University facade.
Ya suppose Pat drives a Ugo, or walks everywhere like Mother Theresa did? .............or does he have a chauffeur?
