I am using 4 inch marble tile (white) in a fountian install. I am tileing the entire bottom and installing tiles over 2 coats of Hydro Ban (a watertight sealer by Laticrete). Can you give me some recommendation on what I should use as a thin set mortar? Also should I use an acrylic admix? I also intend to do tight grout lines. What should I use for grout? Any help is greatly appreciated. CAM

Check to see what Laticrete says.

It's a debatable issue. Some say use modified thinset and some say use non-modified. Since your using the sealer this may dictate the use of one or the other.

As far as grout goes. In that size joint you could only use unsanded.

I agree with contacting Laticrete to see what their recommendations are regarding this type if installation for both the thinset and grout.
I would want to stay with one manufacturer for the information on this type of project as well.

You could also contact the TCA to see what their recommendations are for pool installations.

I'd use laticrete 254 platinum (white) and their latasil silicone sealant for the joints if it's a small area. If it's a large area I'd probably go with their industrial epoxy.

TCA's recommendation is let it dry properly and ask Laticrete what thinset they want.

Typical pass-the-buck answer you'd expect from an association bureaucrat.
