Anyone familiar with Fiberworks in Kentucky? I have been installing for almost forty years, and have ran across the thinnest broadloom I have ever seen. Been some time since I have installed broadloom, any sugestions on seams? This is on jute. Total thickness jute and wool 1/4 total height. Hard to hide the seam. Not to mention 200 yds to install. Thanks for any suggestions, the OLD MAN needs it.
Made by Fiber Works. The Piterdam Collection. Called the factory and they said they no Tech support refer to CRI, which I knew this already. They did say tack strip and thin pad 8lb or better. No power strech or double glue. Not a lot of info from them. I will power stretch using a cotton head to some degree. Being so thin concrens me with hiding the seam work. Cutting seams across the rib is ok just not much face to help hide. This is really a light weigh wool. Most installers [hackers} around here will not touch it. The OLD MAN needs a good challenge.

I know the material well. * lb pound pad that is a joke forget it Use a cotton head stretch as like any wool. I would use an acrylic latex . Latex your weft wires good. I do this all the time. Use a top cutter or scissors if you must to cut your seam. Cross seams is a no no . dont even bother . These types of goods . I dont care if the room is 17 x 30they will need a 13 x 61. Do you see where I am going. You cant determine a natural fiber it is inconsistant.
Use a synthetic felt cushion. And a doublestick would not be bad at all. I will tell you this the mills are so afraid of installers messing up the product they will say anything. 8 lb pad you have a problem , one of them will be insufficient cushion . 10 lb which I dont use . Synthetic felt is your best option.
Thanks for the info Mr. Meyers. As they say steady hand lots of good nerves on the seam. You stated just about what I had in mind. The only good thing they say on the samples is,"THE SEAMS MAY BE VISBLE". We do NO HEAD SEAMS. The OLD MAN takes pride in his seam work. Again many THANKS to you.

Are you sure it's a woven piece? What tape do you plan to use? Yes this is the product. Yes it is woven, and placed on jute, similar to any secondary jute backing. AS for pad I'm using 40 oz synthetic felt [undyed]. As for the tape a good quality low-profile, med heat range, iron with heat shield.

I'm sure that makes you feel better about your expectations, but who's managing the customer's expectations? I wouldn't rely on the dealer to do his job.
In this situation I'd make a seam sample prior to installation and make sure the client understands that's the best it will look. Put under tension and subjected to incident lighting it will appear much more obvious. If they balk I'd high tail it outta there.
$2 a foot is a good base. Add removal, tackless work, furniture, haul, delivery, seam work, pattern matching & alignment, etc. and you could be in the mid threes. Money is the only way to seperate yourself from the hacks. Otherwise their not hacks, they're just smarter than you.
