Are you going to leave gaps in the new section, to match the old section? If not, won't you have a bow or big gaps to make up?? You know what I mean?

Ya, bring in a roll of dimes and space as needed. Use 3 1/4" flooring and table saw down when needed to reduce the cracks a bit also. Biggest issue was matching the 100 year old aged maple floor with lots of water damage. Flipper house that's been vacant for 15 years with a slow water leak in the roof. Pulled flooring from the rooms upstairs and used every bit that we could but still short about 20 sq ft. Picked up some heart maple and then used some amberizer to age it. Looks OK, pick up a cheap area rug, put in some small furniture and cover up most the floor, will look great for the open house

Neato, what about those black spots? Can't ya refinish the whole floor?

Ya, we're doing the whole floor, the light colored flooring is sealed and buffed. Haven't gone back since we did the final coats to see how it all blended. The real dark spots are water damaged areas that would need to be patched and most of that we couldn't see until we sanded the floor. As I told the customer, we can replace as much or as little as you want, tell me when to stop, it's $20 per row/board (up to 2' wide) for patching + material. Areas wider then 2' we add in square footage cost of installing. The patch charge was around $600 plus the cost to sand and refinish the floor.
