Got a fax from Myers Carpet in Dalton, GA. Funny when things get tough options open up for buying wholesale. Least the nice lady that called back today from Myers said they were wholesale. Then their website says wholesale direct to consumers too.
The lady, Kay was very nice and had that wonderful southern accent so pleasing to the ear, not like Lee Tuckers though. I am getting set up for selling natural fiber and green flooring for next year. Myers has woven, wool and sisal, worked right into my plan. In my town bout the only place to get woven, wool and sisal (natural fiber) is at prosource and they're prices are sky high. My clients do not like the place much. Maybe its the lousy location. Anyways just wanted to get some feedback about Myers from people. Hey, does Harry Myers work there? This message has been edited. I do work for them when they have work in the NC area. I am not related to them. Jerry Miller hooked me up with them a while ago.

They have 3 locations. Atlanta, Dalton, and Nashville. Everytime I put my hands on something they stocked, or ordered there was defects in it.
You would crap if you saw what they stocked in Atlanta! Lots of very expensive wovens. Lots of wool inventory that sits for a long time? I did a repair for them once. The carpet I did the repair with was the same roll.....2 1/2 years later. Who can afford to stock all that inventory at 1st quality prices? At the time they were very unethical in the way they treated their installers. I personally liked Ray Myers. The old manager in Nashville was a not so nice person. He might have been part owner. |

Well I opened my front door to my suprise there sat a box from UPS. The label said it was from Meyers Carpet.
Inside was an excellent selection of tufted wool samples from Godfrey Hirst. And a couple books of Sisal as well. I thought she was going to send some woven but hey, this will get me started at least it's wool and has a real jute back. The jute back is a nice high pic as well. Even though Meyers is going to be a middle man, the price ain't so bad. And since the major mills stopped making wool carpet, that makes it even better. With the cost of oil going up and that directly reflecting on the plastic carpet marketprice wool is becoming more affordable every day. Now I see why David Hunt wanted the price of oil to go up. Dang, and I thought he just was hording oil futures. Now I have cork, bamboo, wool, wood, sisal and also some porcelian tile that has 40% recycled product. Going Green is good! The only thing I need is a source for some linoleum and it will be complete. |

I told a story once back in late 2003 or early 2004 on here. It was actually about Myers Crapets and their junk instock "canary" berber. I installed it at the home of Clint Black and his wife's nanny.

Well lets tell it again Barn!
Was this a carpet produced by one of the big three? |

Shaw, it was streaked, and had grease on the back side.

Ah yes, that can happen to most carpets. Although grease comes off of wool carpet really really easy.
I had just installed a tufted wool in a custom house a couple years back. The builder walked in with some axle grease on his shoe and walked all around one room checking the job out untill he looked back and noticed big black grease marks that followed him around the room. He freaked, I called my carpet cleaner. Came out looking like new. And get this, the wool does not have a stain protector. This wool carpet had a nice jute back. I love the smell of jute in the morning! Know what else, the jute is not so stiff and crumbly as the actionbac. And if it is a little stiff I can use a little hot water!!! Ha Ha!!! |

POS nylon berber. Customer saw the backing was nasty and I had to stop.
Clint Black'w wife (Tabitha from the original "Bewitched" TV show, PM magazine, Knotts Landing can remember her frikken name.) Complained the carpet was ugly, claimed we bumped the walls with the power stretcher. (Should have seen the nasty walls in every room.) Also the base board was too high in the hallway! S-T-F-U AND PAY ME!! I was told it was 54 yards of cut pile, it turned out to be 74 of berber with steps. Saturday job, I really needed to be installing a new Applebee's that day to have Sunday off. It took me 3 weeks to get my money and they tried to take out workers comp (which I had) and tried to take out retainage. I told them I wouldn't sign the papers to allow them to take out the retainage. I charged extra for sitting around and waiting for the replacement on a hot Saturday afternoon. They refused to pay that for 6-7 months. Said the mill wouldn't pay the money.(BS or the mill knew they sold them seconds.) I told them I didn't care. My contract was with them not the mill. S-T-F-U AND PAY ME! Did I mention that we trucked in the stupid appliances for free from the street for this ungrateful non-English speaking domestic? Plus the salesman forgot the Master bedroom for the downstairs. So another installer had to do it on Monday or Tuesday. (they lost more money there)He had to do 2 cross seams in both master closets too! Stuck me with a bill for $45-65 to "patch" the wall? At the time they paid more than anyone in town. Good luck getting it all! |

I feel for ya Barn, but Meyers does not make the carpet. You seem to have had issues with the way you were hired, sub vs employee and yes, many companies used to try and take out retainage long ago. That shit stopped.
I don't believe I will have the same problems just buying higher end wool carpet from them. |

They will probably sell you a rag. Pattern will run off etc.
Just like "Poor Choice" I mean Pro Source. |

You think they sell Godfrey Hirst seconds?
I'll ask the nice lady tomorrow if it's first quality goods. I hope I do not insult her. |
