Well, after getting screwed around by other people up to this point, I went ahead and decided to go with someone recommended by someone on the John Bridge forums, even though the price was on the upper end of the spectrum and above my budget. I will not mention names at this point, because I am only curious about something. This installer and I decided to SLC the entire floor. He chose to use Ardex K15 SLC vs the stuff at Home Depot, because he said it works better. He put a layer of Ardex Primer down a few hours before pouring the Ardex SLC. He did the pour on Saturday. He said to me while doing the pour, that it MIGHT spider crack while curing, but that it was no problem. He said that he would just feather over it with another layer of something (cant remember what) before laying the tile. I was uncomfortable with this comment, but let him continue, trusting his knowledge. Well, it is cracking all over the floor now, and it has only been 2 days. I just cant agree that this is ok. Should this happen and is the job botched once again? I do not want to progress any further if this is the case without correcting the problems. Please help. Thanks!

On deeper pours spidercracking as it dehydrates is normal. Once dehydrated, it is stable enough to skimcoat with our SD-F Feather Finish, or it can be filled as the tiles are set, any of our thinsetting mortars.

K-15 is excellent, I've never had it crack on me. If you over-water it it'll weaken and crack.

Hardens quickly and dries fast without shrinking, cracking, or spalling.

sorry kevin, I was on vacation.

minor spidering is normal with k-15

tap on it in various places to make sure near 100% adhesion to the slab took place (no hollow loose spots). If not, then perhaps it wasn rough rough enough or scarified properly prior to install. These area can be repairs by removal, scarification, and re-isntallation.

its normal to flash over minor spidering.

Kevin,

sorry I didnt respond sooner. I was on vacation.

minor spidering is normal with k-15, and so is flashing over it to prep for isntall.

the only major concern would be flattness and any loose spots that didnt adhere properly, if applicable. You can test this by tapping on it or bouncing a golfball in it. If there is any hollow spots they can be repaired byt removal of the affected area, scarification of slab, then re-instalaltion of the k-15 in the affected area.
