I recently ripped some carpeting in my old house. My plan is to nail t&g pine flooring down to the subfloor. The subfloor is particle board. My question is: will the nails hold in the particle board? Someone has suggested to me that I should put down 1/4" plywood, over the particle board, to be sure that my nails will hold. What do you think??

Absolutely not. If the particle is under the walls I say float it, or if not under take it out.

The PB should be removed and replaced with a square edged plywood underlayment.

Did you read the MFR's specs? Many can be glued to PBF.
